By Mrs Josefina Moreno and Mr Antonio Torres, Spanish teachers
Imagine stepping into a virtual Spanish classroom, exploring bustling marketplaces in Madrid, or relaxing on a beach in Barcelona—all from the comfort of your classroom. That’s the experience our students are having with our new VR language learning program.
Real-world contexts
Equipped with VR headsets, students embark on virtual journeys to Spain, where they encounter a variety of scenarios that demand Spanish language skills. From ordering food at a tapas bar to asking for directions, students practice speaking Spanish in real-world contexts.
Safe environment
The interactive nature of VR makes learning more fun and effective. Students can repeat conversations, make mistakes in a safe environment, and receive immediate feedback. This personalised approach helps to boost confidence and improve fluency.
What did our students think?
Luca: "My experience with VR was a lot of fun because the Madrid Noir app had a lot of plot and suspense in the story."
Oliver: "My experience last week was a lot of fun because in Spanish class we played with VR."
Elias: "Madrid Noir is a very fun VR game."
Aniha: "What I like most about VR is that learning is fun with having interactive way to learn such as one game was learning animals, I learned animals and interacted with them."
Shiv: I like how we get to apply Spanish words in conversations, feeling like I am actually talking to them, it feels pretty good to have this immersive experiment.
Our Language Acquisition and Language and literature students had a great time exploring these different scenarios and practicing the skills learnt in class. Let’s see what other adventures we can bring to the classroom!
