In March, 125 MYP students took part again in the national Kangaroo mathematics competition. This year, the grade 8’s performed so strongly that our school even took 5th place in the nation.

Additionally, 4 of our students (grades 8 and 9) earned notable mention through scoring in the 99th percentile - three of whom will represent ISU in the next round of competition (held in June at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam).

Kangaroo Maths

This contest originally started over 40 years ago in Australia and has since become one of the most well-known and popular mathematics competitions in the world! This year, 125 MYP students took part in this event (Nationwide, over 93,000 students participated in all age levels)! As one grade 6 student noted, the organisation does a nice job of balancing challenge and fun:

I chose to participate in this year’s Kangaroo contest because I think it is a great opportunity to learn new things, improve in math related patterns and simply to have a lot of fun!” (Nawel, 6U)

Consider this question from a past wizSMART (grade 6) category. If you feel like there is information missing, you are not alone! However, the problem can be solved with what is given. Good luck!
