A group of 32 teachers from various NUOVO schools embarked on an international trip to Berlin with the goal of learning from each other and with each other. Each participant set both personal and general learning goals to gain knowledge for themselves and their colleagues. After months of preparation, the group departed from Amersfoort on the first day of Whitsun (Pinksteren) for a 7-day trip to Berlin. From ISU James Ridley, Josefina Moreno and Mohamad Siraj joined the trip.

Upon arrival in Berlin at 15:30  we checked in and gathered for drinks and dinner at the Weltwirtschaft am HKW by the water. The following day,  we engaged in various activities to get to know each other better and to learn about the history of Berlin. We visited landmarks such as the Reichstag, the Holocaust Memorial, the Spree River, and the Fernsehturm.

Visiting German Schools

The next morning, after breakfast, we visited German schools. Due to our large group, we split up to visit different schools. I had the opportunity to visit the Ferdinand Freiligrath Schule, the Nelson Mandela International School, and the Street College with my colleagues Mohamad and James.

Topography of Terror

On Friday, we attended a workshop at the Topography of Terror, where we learned how to use sources in our lessons and how to teach about World War II to our students. Overall, it was an incredible learning experience, and we hope to share our newfound knowledge with our colleagues soon!
