Grade 2 is so excited to tell you all about the amazing journey we went on in our Story Telling unit this year! Let’s take a look at how we did it.
1. Memorising the Model Text
First, we learned our model text about a purple dinosaur who just moved to a new island and is petrified to start at her new school because she does not know the language. The title of this story is ‘Snuffles Goes to School’.We memorised this story through actions and animation.
2. Learning the Story Pattern
Next, we dived into the structure of stories—how they usually have a beginning, middle, and end. We played around with character development by making puppets of our dinosaur friend ‘Snuffles’ from our model text. We discovered that the adjectives that were used in our model text to describe ‘Snuffles’ were helpful for our imagination and how adjectives build up the character, setting and plot of the story.

3. Talking About Our Stories
Next, we practised telling stories aloud, some of them even in our home language. We worked together in groups, sharing ideas and helping each other come up with creative beginnings, exciting middles, and satisfying endings. We also made sure our stories had interesting characters, settings, and problems to solve.
4. Writing Our Own Stories
After we practised telling our stories, we got
to write them down! Everyone used their own ideas and creativity to write a story
that was all their own. We worked hard to make sure our stories had lots of
details to bring them to life.

5. Sharing Our Stories on the ISU Radio Show
To celebrate all of our hard work, we did something really special. We got to share our stories on the ISU radio show! Some of our Grade 2 students read our stories aloud for everyone to hear. It was amazing to see how proud everyone was of their work, and the radio show was a big hit.
