By Anne, student DP1 and ISUMUN Head of Media
ISUMUN is a growing activity for our school and allows schools from all over the Netherlands and some from different countries in Europe to gather and have a fun weekend meeting new people. This year we had 8 different committees and 280 participants.
Completely student led
A lot of effort went into organising the whole conference and the planning started in June 2025. With a group of 12 students, (watch this clip in which we introduce ourselves) divided into different roles, the website and marketing was done, guest speakers were organised and press, social media and admin teams were collected and instructed. We also planned the catering, made plan how to set up the school and created merchandise and materials.
Training our ISU participants
Students participating in the conference from our school also got training on how it works so that they would be prepared from members of the organisation to make sure everything went smoothly.
Digital diplomacy
Over the course of the weekend, we had students from MYP and DP debating all kinds of different issues relating to the theme of our conference: Digital Diplomacy: Addressing Cyber Security, Human Rights, and Global Governance in the Digital Era. Each committee discussed very different global issues in an attempt to reach a conclusion agreed upon by most countries.
Other than a few small issues, the conference ran very smoothly and created a welcoming and exciting atmosphere throughout the weekend. We witnessed a lot of interesting debates, and it was especially rewarding to watch first-time delegates grow more confident with the rules of procedure, deliver speeches, and actively participate in negotiations.
Passing resolutions
By the end of the conference, all 8 committees had successfully passed resolutions, showing the effort and collaboration of everyone involved. Alongside the intense discussions, delegates also had time to do different social activities, meet new people, and build friendships with students from different schools and countries. We received a lot of positive feedback, with many participants and MUN directors from other schools applauding the organisation, the professionalism and the overall experience.
Closing Ceremony
During the closing ceremony everyone involved got emotional, as it marked the end of months of hard work and effort. The entirely student-led conference was extremely meaningful to everyone! Please have a look at the video we shoot during the conference.
More details, pictures and videos about the conference can be found on the ISUMUN website, ISU MUN Instagram and TikTok accounts if you are interested.
