It’s a chance for our secondary school community to dive into the world of books, language, and creative expression through fun, engaging, and meaningful activities.
Open stage
This year, Lit Week kicked off on Monday 14 April with our much-loved Book Characters Dress-Up Day. During the lunch break, students and staff gathered in the library for an Open Stage event, where original poetry and favourite book excerpts were read aloud in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.

Throughout the week, English classes visited the library to experiment with Poetry Writing in creative formats like Blackout Poetry, Book Spine Poetry, and Magnetic Muse Poetry. These hands-on sessions inspired students to play with language, rhythm, and meaning in unique ways.
Mini Saga Competition
For the first time ever, we also introduced an exciting new challenge: the Mini Saga Competition. A mini saga is a short story written in exactly fifty words, with a title of up to fifteen words. Despite its length, a mini saga tells a full story—with a beginning, middle, and end. Originally made popular by The Sunday Telegraph in 1982, this form of storytelling has become a beloved creative exercise.
On 17 April, we proudly announced the winners of ISU’s Mini Saga Competition. The entries were beautiful, thought-provoking, and incredibly well written—showcasing the talent, imagination, and voice of our students.
The joy of reading and writing
Lit Week is more than just a celebration—it’s a reminder of how literature enriches our lives, helps us connect with others, and inspires us to think deeply and dream big.
So as we turn each page, perform each poem, and celebrate each story, we invite everyone to embrace the joy of reading and writing. Happy Lit Week, ISU!
