By James Kelsall, Head of Logistics & Learning
My professional career began in the corporate sector, but I soon found myself drawn to education, seeking a clearer sense of purpose and impact in my work. I taught at some of London's top independent schools before moving to the British School in the Netherlands, where I led the academic and wellbeing curriculum for students in their final two years of school.
Technology
Within education, I am particularly interested in how schools prepare students for a society that is evolving in ways difficult to imagine. This led me to briefly work with Synthesis School, which came from SpaceX. They used games and simulations to teach complex ideas to primary school children. It is exactly this type of conceptual and transdisciplinary learning that underpins the educational philosophy of the International Baccalaureate, which all students at International School Utrecht experience.
Musician
Music has always been an important part of my life, both within and beyond education. I remain active as a musician and producer, and highlights over the years include performing at an event attended by Barack Obama, hosting a radio show in London, and recording at the world-famous Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum with music production students from my previous school.
Head of Logistics & Learning
The Head of Logistics & Learning is a hugely exciting role both for me and ISU. This newly created role will allow me to combine my skills and experience across logistics, business administration, and education, whilst always ensuring that my core focus remains on student learning.
