English; Theory of Knowledge; Extended Essay Coordinator
Olivia Ayes was born in the Philippines and moved to the United States as a child. After completing a Bachelor of Arts in English (honors), minors in biology and writing, a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing, and a graduate certificate in gender studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, she worked as a writer, editor, and university lecturer in both St. Louis and New York City.
Olivia gained secondary teaching experience at international schools in Tanzania and Indonesia, implementing both Cambridge (Key Stage 3, IGCSE, and A-Levels) and IB (MYP and DP) curricula, meanwhile acquiring an English Language Arts teaching qualification for grades 6-12. She has held numerous roles as a boarding parent, class mentor, basketball and volleyball coach, Student Council adviser, TOK teacher, CAS Coordinator, and IB Examiner. She obtained a master’s degree from Utrecht University, focusing on international and bilingual education.
Olivia joined the vibrant and multicultural team at ISUtrecht in 2017, appreciating the process of professional and personal growth while teaching and learning through an inquiry-based curriculum. She aims to motivate students to be autonomous, perceptive, and empathetic global citizens who feel empowered to be constructive agents of change.
Olivia volunteers for Justice and Peace Netherlands, plays sports, and grows an urban moestuinje.
