Nell Crawford

History; Subject Area Coordinator Individuals &Societies

Nell Crawford is American and grew up in Seattle during the explosion of the grunge music scene. She has an BA in History from Bryn Mawr College, and a Master in Education from the University of Illinois.

Before moving to the Netherlands in 2014 she taught high school history for nine years in Oak Park, Illinois. Prior to joining the staff at ISUtrecht she worked as a visiting professional at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where she created educational materials for students visiting the Court.

Nell is drawn to history because she believes it encourages students to question presumed truths, substantiate arguments, and engage with the world around them. She is also an experienced teacher of expository writing.

In her spare time she enjoys sewing, scenic walks, and baking pies. She lives in Leiden with her Singaporean partner and two kids.
