Jeroen de Haas
Jeroen de Haas was born in the Netherlands. After growing up in Alkmaar he moved to Utrecht to study physics and has lived there ever since. He has a Bachelor degree in teaching Science and a Master degree in teaching Physics and is an experienced 6th to 12th grade teacher He lives close to ISUtrecht, in Hoograven, with his wife and two kids.
He enjoys teaching science because of its contextual nature and social importance. He specialised in physics for its abstract nature and consequent educational challenges. A few of his identifying teaching skills are project based learning, curricular development and collaborative teaching. Before joining the faculty of the International School of Utrecht in 2018 Jeroen worked as a physics and rhetoric teacher at a grammar school in Utrecht since 2010. His educational philosophy summarises as a quote by Socrates: ‘Wonder is the beginning of wisdom’.
Jeroen has always coached and mentored extracurricular student societies. He has specific experience in guiding student debating societies, both in competitive as well as in collaborative forms of debate, such as British parliamentary debating tournaments, European Youth Parliament and Model United Nation events. Jeroen is currently MUN director at the International School of Utrecht and hopes to expand participation in debating activities.
Jeroen enjoys traveling with his family, to practice sports like snowboarding and surfing and spending time on engineering projects.
