Cycling proficiency with SportUtrecht

For ten weeks, ten students from Grades 3 to 6 spent their Monday afternoons with 2 trainers from SportUtrecht learning to cycle proficiently and more importantly, safely. Some had to learn how to cycle while most were soon ready to cycle on the road in groups of 2 learning how to stay safe in traffic.

No bending rules!

One of the lessons was spent learning traffic rules and everyone was eager to show their parents what they learned at the Transwijk park Verkeerstuin (traffic garden) in week 10. The Bicycle Mayor of Utrecht was there to encourage them while Jan, a retired policeman of 40 years, familiarised them with the verkeerstuin. Anticipating lots of cycling related questions he was surprised to be peppered with well thought out questions regarding his work in the police.

Life lessons

Cycling, like swimming, is an important skill to have in the Netherlands and we hope to repeat the training in spring. Interested parents with children in grades 4 to 6 can email
