Goodbye Rynette de Villiers and welcome Marieke Folkers

This week we will say goodbye to head of school Rynette de Villiers. Ms de Villiers will start a new chapter in her life as director of the International Community School Amsterdam. After the winter break we welcome Marieke Folkers as our new head of school.

We would like to thank Ms de Villiers for her leadership, steering the school through successful IB accreditations for all three programmes, overseeing the move to and the extension of the semi-permanent campus at the Van Bijnkershoeklaan and securing a location for a permanent, purpose-built school on the Utrecht Science Park. On her watch the school grew from 150 to the almost 900 students who attend the ISUtrecht today. We wish Ms de Villiers all the best in her new role. Please watch the heartfelt goodbye song all the PYP classes sung this morning on the playground. Led my music teacher Jennifer Diepman, the students did such a good job!!!!!

We are excited to welcome Marieke Folkers as our new head of school in January. Ms Folkers currently is the principal of the Utrechts Stedelijk Gymnasium. She is an experienced school leader and someone who is very well connected in Utrecht. We look forward to working with Ms Folkers to further develop the ISUtrecht. Please watch this short video in which Ms Folkers introduces herself.

Ms Folkers will start after the Winter Break. Until the end of March 2021, Ms Folkers will also act as principal of her current school the Utrechts Stedelijk Gymnasium (USG). This gives the USG time to recruit a new head of school. This means that Ms Folkers will work part time at the ISUtrecht for the first three months of 2021. From 1 April onwards Ms Folkers will full time at the ISUtrecht.

We are reaching the end of an intense year in which we had to adjust to teaching and learning during a pandemic. If 2020 has taught us one thing it is the importance of feeling and being connected. Although we’ve all become proficient in meeting each other online, we cannot deny that we look forward to off screen celebrations, singing, dancing and hugging. Hopefully we can do so again in 2021.

We would like to thank you for your continued support throughout this challenging year and wish you all a happy and healthy 2021!
