Doing PHE at a 1,5-meter distance
PHE teacher Wouter van Slobbe looks back at the year, when doing sports with groups of students was seriously hampered by the novel coronavirus. He is also looking ahead to next year, introducing a new team member!

The end of the year is fast approaching, and we have had quite a ride in PHE. As our MYP students have been restricted to doing sports whilst maintaining the 1,5-meter rule, we had to get really creative with our lesson content in May and June. Therefore, activities such as softball, lacrosse and athletics have proved great alternatives for contact sports like basketball or football. Doing this, we were able to both provide decent lessons and adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines. Meanwhile it was incredibly peaceful doing PHE with just half a group 😉
Newest member of the PHE Team
The end of an era: we can no longer be referred to as ‘the PE boys’. We have welcomed Yasmin Bakker as our newest member of the PHE team as of the next academic year! Though some of you might have been introduced to her already, since she now occasionally comes in to assist Nick while he is still in a cast. We’re very happy to have her in our team!
Sports Day 2020
Equally exciting is our favorite day of the year coming up: PYP Sports Day 2020! It’ll take place for all primary students on Monday 13 July, and it involves activities varying from a bouncy castle for KG and Grade 1, to a dodgeball tournament for Grade 2 up to Grade 5, and many more. Although we unfortunately can’t welcome parents to be spectators, we will make sure to take photos so we can share some of the sporty joy with our entire community. We are really looking forward to it!
