Parent workshops MYP

We invite parents whose children are currently in grades 6-10 for parent information workshops. Through these workshops we hope parents will get a better understanding of what and how we teach in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.

By Liam Moody, leader of middle years

The International Baccalaureate, from the Primary Years Programme to the Diploma Programme, takes a global approach, teaching students to look a big ideas across disciplines. All subjects, classes and assessments tend to involve research, writing, and hands-on evaluation.

This might be new to parents who sometimes struggle to understand the “design cycle”, the “language acquisition phases” or the “IB terminology”  in general. To show you how the various subjects are taught in the MYP, we would like to invite you to join us for one or more workshops. These sessions are meant for parents who are new to the school but also for parents who have been at ISUtrecht for some time.

Instructional philosophy

As part of this year’s Parent Workshop Series, we will start with a series of information sessions. This gives parents a nice opportunity to understand their child’s learning further and ask questions they may have regarding each subject.

The MYP Parent Informational Sessions are intended for current parents to gain more knowledge about: The Programme, Instructional Philosophy, Units of Instruction as well as Assessment and how grades are assigned.

Learning objectives

Each session will focus on two subjects and will be run by our specialist subject teachers. They will include information about how the inquiry cycle and concepts are taught, what the learning objectives are, how assessments work and how subjects are taught in the separate grade levels.
