Early Years at ISUtrecht encompasses all of Kindergarten and Grade 1. The school offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), for students aged 4 to 11. ISUtrecht is an International Baccalaureate World School, accredited to teach the PYP.
This is a transdisciplinary programme of international education designed to foster the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. As students progress through this programme they continually build upon and develop their independence, self-confidence and sense of responsibility for their learning. We do this by providing them with learning that prepares them emotionally, socially and intellectually for the more formal primary grades (2-5).
The PYP is a comprehensive programme, which ensures a child-centered, teacher-guided, international environment. The programme exposes the children to a meaningful curriculum of skills, attitudes and knowledge, through developmentally appropriate activities.
The PYP focusses on:
- Knowledge—what do we want students to know about
- Concepts—what do we want students to understand
- Skills—what do we want students to be able to do
- Attitudes—what do we want students to feel, value and demonstrate
- Action—how do we want students to act
